Health insurance in Little Rock, with your hospital in mind.

Since September 1, 2026, CHI St. Vincent has been out of network with Arkansas Blue Cross health plans, including Health Advantage and Octave. That matters more than usual this year. Three of the four companies selling Marketplace plans in Arkansas for 2027 are Blue Cross plans.

CHI St. Vincent and Arkansas Blue Cross: where things stand

CHI St. Vincent hospitals and doctors have been out of network with Arkansas Blue Cross health plans since September 1, 2026.

The split covers four hospitals: CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, CHI St. Vincent North in Sherwood, and the CHI hospitals in Morrilton and Hot Springs. It also covers about 80 clinics and more than 300 doctors and other providers CHI employs.

It affects all three Blue plans sold on the Marketplace: Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Health Advantage and Octave. Care from CHI is now paid at your plan’s out-of-network level. Arkansas Blue Cross says some plans pay nothing out of network, and a hospital that is out of network can bill you for the rest. Source: Arkansas Blue Cross press release, September 1, 2026, and CHI St. Vincent’s alerts page, both read October 29, 2026.

Each side blames the other. We take no side. What matters to you is the network as it stands when you choose. As of October 31, 2026, no new contract had been announced.

  • In an emergency, go to the nearest hospital. CHI says emergency care is covered at the in-network level at any hospital.
  • Some treatment can continue for a while. If you are pregnant, in the hospital, or in treatment for a serious condition, ask Arkansas Blue Cross about continuity of care. It may keep CHI in network for up to 90 days from the date you got your notice, if switching doctors would be unsafe. If you are pregnant, it may last through the pregnancy and up to six weeks after delivery.
  • Not every doctor at a CHI hospital is affected. Doctors who can admit patients there but are not employed by CHI stay in network. Prescriptions from a CHI doctor are still covered at an in-network pharmacy.

How the dispute changes your 2027 choice

For 2027, a Marketplace buyer here is choosing between the Blue Cross family and Ambetter.

Four companies sell Marketplace plans in Arkansas for 2027. Three of them, Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Health Advantage and Octave, have not had CHI in network since September 1. The fourth is QCA Health Plan, sold as Ambetter from Arkansas Health & Wellness. More on who sells plans across Arkansas.

CHI’s own insurance page still lists Ambetter among the plans it accepts. Before you enroll, look up your CHI doctors by name in Ambetter’s 2027 directory. We do this with every client who uses CHI.

If no CHI doctor matters to you, the dispute may not matter either. Little Rock’s other big systems include UAMS, Baptist Health and Arkansas Children’s. Check your own doctors either way, because networks change every January.

Pulaski County leans hard on extra savings

More people here get extra savings on Silver plans than in Arkansas as a whole.

In 2026, 34.7% of Pulaski County Marketplace enrollees got cost-sharing reductions, against 31.8% statewide. These lower your deductible and copays, and they only come with Silver plans. 38.3% of enrollees here had incomes between 100% and 150% of the federal poverty level, also above the state’s 31.8%. If your income is in that range, a Silver plan may cost a little more each month than Bronze, but far less when you see a doctor or fill a prescription.

If your income is under 138% of the poverty level, check ARHOME, Arkansas Medicaid for adults, first. It may cover you at no cost.

Who buys their own coverage in Little Rock

Little Rock runs on government, hospitals and universities, and many of those jobs come with a group plan.

The Little Rock Regional Chamber’s list of major employers starts with government, then UAMS, Baptist Health, Little Rock Air Force Base and Arkansas Children’s. Most of those jobs come with a group plan.

The people who call us are usually outside that. They are self-employed, retired early, between jobs, or running a small business. If you just lost job-based coverage, you usually have 60 days to pick a Marketplace plan.

How we help Little Rock households

We check your doctors and prescriptions against each option before you choose.

We start with your doctors, including any at CHI St. Vincent, and your prescriptions. We work out the tax credit you qualify for and price the Marketplace plans with it. Then we price short-term and private plans next to them. Most people have never heard of these, and for many healthy households they cost far less. Then we show you what each one would really cost you. For the rest of the state, read our Arkansas health insurance guide.

Elsewhere in Arkansas: Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas, where the hospitals took new names, and Fort Smith, where Baptist Health scaled back. For employers, see group plans for your team.

Common questions

Little Rock questions, straight answers

Is CHI St. Vincent in network with Arkansas Blue Cross?

Not as of October 31, 2026. CHI St. Vincent has been out of network with Arkansas Blue Cross health plans, including Health Advantage and Octave, since September 1, 2026. In an emergency, federal law protects you from surprise out-of-network bills at any hospital. Check again before you enroll, because a new contract would change this.

Which companies sell Marketplace plans in Little Rock for 2027?

Four: Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Health Advantage, Octave, and QCA Health Plan, sold as Ambetter from Arkansas Health & Wellness. All four filed plans for every part of Arkansas.

Do Marketplace plans cost more in Little Rock than elsewhere in Arkansas?

No. Under the filed 2027 rates, a Marketplace plan costs the same in every part of Arkansas for someone of the same age and tobacco use. Short-term, private and group plans are different: they are priced by ZIP code, so we quote them at your address.

Does it cost anything to work with you?

Not for individual and family plans. The carrier pays us, and your premium is the same whether you use us or enroll on your own.

Apex Health Advisors LLC is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. government or the federal Medicare program.
